MORE Teachers..

Tammy Balamut

My journey to self care started in my youth at the local library from a book on the daily practices of French women for radiant health and beauty. To this day the name of this book escapes me even though I frequently checked it out. At age 17 I became an entry level nurse and quickly learned the value of taking care of the human body. Regular exercise, nutrition, and sleep honored me with the energy to pursue different opportunities in my life, each time improving my wellbeing and the wellbeing of others around me. After a 5 year daily yoga practice I found the teacher training with Vyana Yoga to be the place where it al came together. Come join me at the Lunar Flow community class this Sunday as I hold space and time for you to nourish yourself with the gift of movement that reflects the feminine way of life. Lift off to the moon.

Yoga is for anyone and everyone! This is something I had to learn, and apply to myself, since exploring Yoga for over 20 years. I was the person who for years felt intimidated in many yoga classes. I turned to online yoga instruction, and did at-home practices, while still doing occasional in-person classes at various studios. Like many people, I used yoga as a way to keep flexible, as an adjunct to my exercise routine, and as a way to manage stress.

There was an unmistakable pull for me to become an Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher at Vyana Yoga, which I completed in April 2024. I’ve been a Registered Nurse since 1997 and have been immersed in holistic wellness since then. This accommodating practice and training felt like a natural extension of me. I learned a great deal about myself, but also about the roots of yoga. Yoga, once just a physical practice to me, is so much more and is now in my heart. I learned that yoga is your yoga, and it truly is for anyone. Once I realized this, all the intimidation fell away, and I fully embrace and enjoy my practice, without comparing myself to others and without judgement of myself. I practice yoga to create and maintain balance in my life, quiet the mind, feel my connection to the Universe, maintain a strong and fit body, and be the best person I can. My favorite styles of yoga are restorative, Vinyasa, Chair, and gentle Hatha, but I am always exploring different styles and classes. I enjoy both calming practices and those with a bit of positive challenge, and feel balanced with a combination of breathwork, asana and meditation. I want to be a teacher who welcomes everyone into the beauty of a personal yoga practice, encouraging you to explore and find more balance in your life, and allowing any intimidation or judgement to fall away. As a lifelong student of yoga, I consider it an honor to serve and share this gift of knowledge with you.
